Today I am launching my inaugural ‘Winter Toy Drive’ and I hope residents will join me in supporting children in our community.

Partnering with The Disability Trust, the ‘Winter Toy Drive’ will be running for 4 weeks closing on the 29 August 2019. All toy donations will be distributed amongst Special Education and Early Intervention Units throughout the Shellharbour electorate.

The drop off zone for the donations will be the Shellharbour electorate office, located at Shop 3, 10 College Avenue, Shellharbour City Centre.

I am encouraging local residents to donate toys to the ‘Winter Toy Drive’ with a focus on toys suited for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Considering Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has recently revised their figures from 1 in 100 to an estimated 1 in 70 people on the Autism Spectrum in Australia, there is undoubtedly a growing need for additional support and resources in Shellharbour.

All toys will be accepted and distributed by my office however The Disability Trust are encouraging residents to donate toys such as:

- Sensory items e.g. fluffy stuffed animals, playdough, balls.

- Concentration games e.g. rubix cubes, puzzles, lego.

- Or anything suitable for a child with a disability. Please feel free to distribute this poster to help raise awareness for the cause.
