Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, has today written to the Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance, calling for an extension of bus services to Shell Cove town centre.

At present, the closest bus stop is at the corner of Cove Boulevard and Brindabella Drive, over 10 minutes’ walk from the new town centre.

The first shops at Shell Cove town centre opened last month, which include a Woolworths, barber and bakery. When complete, Shell Cove town centre will consist of 1,500 new dwellings and a new retail and community hub.

Ms Watson also called on the Minister to introduce the service on weekends for local residents and to promote tourism in the area. Currently, buses only run on weekdays.

Quotes Attributable to Anna Watson MP:

“Shell Cove is one of the fastest growing residential areas in the electorate. Extending this bus service to the new town centre is common sense.

“Shell Cove residents that don’t have access to a car have no public transport options to get to Shell Cove town centre. This is problematic, especially for the elderly and those with impaired mobility.

“We should be encouraging both locals and tourists alike to visit Shell Cove town centre to support the local economy. To do this, we need an extended bus service that also runs on weekends.”
