Nine sporting groups from the Shellharbour electorate will share in $50,000 in funding under the NSW Government’s 2018/19 Local Sport Grant Program.

Swimming into its 53rd year, Dapto Swimming Club will receive $20,000 for the installation of new swimming blocks at Dapto Olympic Pool.

Club members and the wider community will benefit from this funding once the swimming blocks are purchased. This grant will enable Dapto Swimming Club to provide local swimmers with an opportunity to compete in a nine lane competition pool in the Illawarra with equipment like that found at Homebush and the AIS swimming pools.

Other local sporting groups to receive funding under this round of the Local Sport Grant Program include:

  • Kookas Cricket Club Inc: $4,378 to purchase a new mower for the turf wicket at Oakleigh Park, in Barrack Heights.

  • Lake Illawarra Little Athletics Inc.: $1,520 to purchase new track and field equipment.

  • Oak Flats Falcons Football Club: $5,000 to upgrade the dugouts at Keith Bond Oval, Oak Flats.

  • Shellharbour Tri Club Inc: $5,000 to purchase new sporting equipment.

  • Warilla Lake South MRLFC: $4,488 to purchase sporting uniforms for junior teams.Sudu Dragon Boat Club Inc: $1,614 to provide first aid training and purchase equipment to enhance training and technique development.

  • Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club: $5,000 to assist with hosting the 2019 Bowls World Cup.

  • Wollongong Boardriders Inc: $3,000 to purchase a new box trailer for transporting equipment.
