GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM, GOOD ENOUGH FOR US: SHELLHARBOUR NEEDS A SERVICE NSW CENTRE NOW!
Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson MP, has renewed calls on the Berejiklian Government to set up a Service NSW Centre for the Shellharbour electorate following news that a lease has been signed for the delivery of a new Service NSW Centre in Engadine.
Early last year, the Berejiklian Government announced that ten new service NSW Centres would be established in growth suburbs across Sydney.
The new facility in Engadine is expected to open in May.
Currently, there are 11 Local Government Areas (LGA) which do not have a permanent Service NSW presence. However, when Mobile Service Centre routes are taken into account, there are only 2 LGA’s in the state (out of 129), which do not have a Service NSW presence at all: Shellharbour is one of them.
“Why should we – one of the fastest growing communities in NSW - have to miss out when over 98% of the state has access to these basic government services?” Ms Watson said.
The electorate of Shellharbour has been without a Service NSW presence, after the Shellharbour Motor Registry was closed down in 2015. A temporary Service NSW digital kiosk was set up at Stockland Shellharbour but closed in July 2017 and has never been replaced.
Prior to the 2019 State Election, NSW Labor pledged to open a Service NSW Centre in Dapto, if elected. This commitment went unmatched by the NSW Liberals.
“If it’s good enough for Engadine, then it’s good enough for Shellharbour.”
“We need a Service NSW Centre and we need it now.” Ms Watson said.
